Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Full-time
Hybrid
Bucharest, Romania

Company Overview

FossID is a global leader in software composition analysis (SCA), committed to advancing software transparency, cybersecurity, and compliance. Our products – including the Workbench application, the Toolbox and CLI command line tools, and the scan server hosting our Knowledge Base (KB) – are delivered to customers in hybrid, offline, and SaaS deployment models. A significant and growing part of this runs in AWS, hosting everything from our shared scan server service to our SaaS evaluation environments and the data collection and curation pipelines behind the Intelligence Engine.

We believe the next chapter of SCA is agentic. AI coding agents are rapidly becoming central to how software is developed, and our strategy is to make FossID a native capability of those agents – through MCP integration and agent skills – rather than an external checkpoint. As AI-driven development accelerates and more of FossID’s capabilities are delivered as always-available cloud services, the demands on our AWS infrastructure only grow.

To keep this foundation reliable, secure, and cost-effective as we grow, we are expanding our small infrastructure team and looking for a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join it.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our infrastructure team and help manage, maintain, and evolve the AWS environment that powers FossID’s products and services. You will be one of a few engineers who keep this environment running day to day and shape where it goes next – this is a hands-on, collaborative role rather than a solo one. You’ll set up and operate workloads across EC2 and Kubernetes, build and maintain infrastructure as code, improve reliability and security, and help keep a firm grip on AWS cost as our footprint grows. Because our Knowledge Base is built from vast amounts of source code, much of this infrastructure works with large datasets and the storage that backs them – operating at data scale is part of the day-to-day.

As a senior member of a small team, you will bring strong judgment and experience, share knowledge with your colleagues, and help raise the bar for how we run infrastructure. The team works closely with our development teams to make it easy and safe for them to ship services into AWS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the infrastructure team to manage, maintain, and evolve FossID’s AWS environment, including compute, networking, storage, IAM, and monitoring.
  • Set up, run, and maintain workloads on both EC2 instances and Kubernetes (EKS or equivalent), choosing the approach that best fits each use case.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure as code and configuration management using tools such as OpenTofu/Terraform and Ansible, so that our environment is reproducible, reviewable, and version-controlled.
  • Help manage AWS cost control: monitor spend, identify inefficiencies, right-size resources, and contribute to practices and guardrails that keep costs predictable as we scale.
  • Improve observability across our AWS footprint – logging, metrics, alerting, and dashboards – so that issues are caught before customers notice them.
  • Contribute to a strong security posture: IAM hygiene, network segmentation, secrets management, and patching.
  • Partner with development teams to make it easy for them to ship services into AWS safely and efficiently.
  • Help plan for resilience, backup, and disaster recovery of critical services such as the shared scan server.
  • Share knowledge within the team and help improve how we work, document, and operate together.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of experience operating production environments in AWS.
  • Strong hands-on experience with core AWS services such as (but not limited to) EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch, and related.
  • Solid experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes (EKS or equivalent) alongside traditional EC2-based deployments.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code using OpenTofu/Terraform (we run OpenTofu), and with configuration management using Ansible (or very similar tools).
  • Strong Linux administration skills.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Solid understanding of AWS cost management: tagging, budgets, reserved instances/savings plans, right-sizing, and cleanup of unused resources.
  • Scripting skills in Python and/or Bash.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic mindset and the ability to work well as part of a small team while taking ownership of the work you do.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with multi-account AWS setups and AWS Organizations.
  • In-depth Podman/Docker experience, including building and optimizing images.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes beyond managed AWS offerings (self-managed clusters).
  • Experience with secrets management solutions (for example AWS Secrets Manager, Vault) and modern identity/SSO setups.
  • Background supporting data-intensive workloads at scale – large databases, large-scale object storage (e.g., S3), or data collection and processing pipelines.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to SaaS (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001).

We Offer

  • Competitive salary and flexible work arrangements.
  • A senior, hands-on role in a small team where your work directly shapes how FossID runs its infrastructure.
  • Opportunity to work in a dynamic, growing sector at the forefront of open-source software transparency and security.
  • A collaborative, innovative team environment that values creativity and forward-thinking.
  • Comprehensive opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Join FossID in Bucharest, Romania, and help run and evolve the cloud infrastructure that underpins our products and services. If you enjoy working across EC2 and Kubernetes, automating infrastructure with OpenTofu/Terraform and Ansible, keeping systems reliable, and making AWS both powerful and cost-effective – as part of a close-knit team – we want to hear from you. Let’s build a world-class cloud foundation for SCA together.
